RBE’s parent involvement policy focuses on several main ideas: Communicating: Providing information to the parents about the programs and daily work being completed. This includes the use of school and classroom newsletters, notes, planners, phone calls, and emails. The staff believes that effective communications from school-to-home and home-to-school are essential in assisting the child to have the best educational experience. Volunteering: The administrative PTO board has done an excellent job in coordinating with the staff at RBE to support the programs and students. They have been able to assist in providing homeroom moms, copiers, cafeteria assistance, library assistance, campus clean-up crews, fundraising for many indoor and outdoor projects, and field trip assistants when required. RBE relies heavily on the support of its community. Decision Making: Utilizing the PTO as a guiding body the parents have been instrumental in assisting the school in making several advances in the past several years: The development of the AR library, playground-with the legal issues of a Pre-K program being addressed, school and grounds safety. Collaboration with the Community: The PTO has been instrumental in working with area business, men’s shelter in Cross Lanes, and local associations such as the midget league programs to coordinate many of the changes which have been occurring at RBE over the past several years. The 2008-2009 school year plan is to continue to focus on these areas, but to expand the program to include some Parenting Skills and Learning at Home. The program will center on several key components utilizing the following timeline: September-Parent training on how to access the school web page and utilize its features focusing on the activities section, newsletters-school and classroom, general school information, email addresses, schoolnotes.com, and the link to the new reading series where information and stories being read can be accessed on line. This session should assist parents in helping their child on homework and other curriculum-related activities and decisions. October-Parents will be invited and encouraged to attend the parent teacher conferences and at the same time visit the book fair which will be set-up in the gym. During the conferences teachers will do WESTEST talks with the parents on grades 4 and 5. Grades k-3 will explain the reading program including discussions on guided reading, AR, and Dibels. The conference will provide necessary communication between home and school while the book fair will promote the reading program. The Title I staff will also provide assistance and general information to parensts and students in grades 4 and 5 who wish to participate in the Social Studies Fair. This session will include general questions and answers to help facilitate the start of the projects. January-Parents and students will be encouraged to attend an evening of fun. The students will attend a movie night which will feature cartoons and four movies (grade appropriate), while the parents attend two evening sessions to assist them in developing skills to work with their child. The sessions will be ” Study Skills” and there will be a follow-up session for students and parents involved in the Social Studies Fair. Instructional materials will be purchased for those attending. Each session will be about thirty minutes in length with a short break between sessions. April-RBE will host its annual reading fun night with beach party as this year's theme. Students will be divided into grade appropriate levels. The evening will be done in connection with the spring book fair which will be set-up in the cafeteria. The focus areas of the evening will be parenting, learning at home and communicating. May-RBE will organize three orientation programs to be held on the same evening. The programs will be designed for the 5th graders going to PMS, incoming kindergarten students, and incoming Pre-K students. The goal is to assist our families with these crucial transitional periods so they feel more comfortable with the school and its surrounds and can then focus more on education at home.
Students are expected to conform to the following student code of conduct: Attend school faithfully, complete assignments on time, and work to their full potential. Behave in a manner that does not disrupt classroom learning or the operation of the school. Obey teachers, principals, and others in authority. Refrain from aggressive or threatening behavior toward fellow students, teachers, or others. Refrain from the possession or use of weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products.
