BOOSTERS The Boosters of Poca Middle School is an organization dedicated to the promotion of academics, athletics, attendance, and socialization for the students of Poca Middle School. All parents of the students of Poca Middle School are invited to attend and belong to the Boosters. Meetings are held in the school cafeteria the 2nd Sunday of every month at 4:30 p.m. For minutes of the meetings, use the link of the "Forms and Information" tab.
ABOUT ATTENDANCE - Students are permitted six (6) parent notes PER YEAR which will be excused for any reason
- Excuses must be submitted with THREE (3) days after returning to school --No exceptions
- In order for excuses to be properly recorded, please send a written parent note or doctor's excuse on the day the student returns. INCLUDE THE HOMEROOM TEACHER'S NAME on the excuse. Send excuses when students are checked in or out, also.
STUDENT ARE EXCUSED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: - Medical appointments (must submit excuse from the doctor)
- Failure of the bus to run (driver must verify this with school or sign the note
- School approved activities
- Funeral
- Legal appointments
STUDENTS WILL NOT BE EXCUSED FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: - Vacations
- Suspensions
- Absences with parent notes exceeding the allowable six per year
The Putnam County Board of Education has established general guidelines for acceptable dress for Putnam County students. Each school has the right to further define those guidelines for their students. In addition to the policy in its entirety stated in the handbook and found online at the Putnam County Board of Education website, the faculty and administration of Poca Middle School has agreed to the following clarifications: The mid-thigh length for lower body attire is acceptable only for shorts. Skirts should be worn at the top of the knee to allow for bending and sitting even when worn with shorts or leggings underneath. Pants or jeans must be worn around the waist—undergarments should not be showing when the shirts are pulled up. The midriff must be covered during all activities: standing, walking, sitting, bending, and raising arms. Shirts, tops, and dresses must have straps at the shoulder of at least one-inch in width. Off-the-shoulder shirts are not permitted. Compliance of these restrictions is regulated by the administration. If you are in doubt as to whether an article of clothing meets these guidelines, it is suggested you wear another item that you are sure meets the guidelines.
Cell phones, as is all electronic devices, are prohibited at Poca Middle School. The administrations does realize, however, that students need to have access to cell phones after school activities and for personal reasons. Therefore, students may bring cell phones to school PROVIDED THAT THE PHONE IS TURNED IN to a teacher or administrator at the beginning of school and retrieved at the end of school. If the policy is violated, the phone will be confiscated and kept by an administrator until a parent/guardian can retrieve it and the student will be disciplined in accordance to the rules governing failure to follow policy.
