Excused absences - When students are absent for legitimate reasons such as illness or injury verified by medical excuse or parent note (limited to 6 per term), school activities, legal or religious obligations, failure of bus to run verified by the driver, or death in the family. Unexcused absence - All other absences. Students with unexcused absences are considered truant. Out-of-school suspensions are unexcused absences. State law requires students to submit a written excuse to the office for EVERY absence. To code the absence as excused in our official records, the student must bring a written note to school within three days of the absence. Appropriate early departure and late arrival notes for legitimate reasons (see above) WILL be accepted as a written excuse for the absence caused by the early departure/late arrival. Students must deposit the excuse in the box on the counter in the office before 8:10 a.m. The note must have the following information:  Student's name and grade

Grading Policy
All Putnam County high school teachers are required to use the adopted county grading scale for grades 9 through 12.: A = 93-100%
B = 85-92%
C = 75-84%
D = 65-74%
F = 0-64%
I = Incomplete (averages as F) The student's cumulative G.P.A. (Grade Point Average) is calculated using ALL grades received in all high school classes, INCLUDING HIGH SCHOOL COURSES TAKEN IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, using these points for single credit classes (half-credit classes receive half of the points): A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F or I = 0 Students in AP classes who take the AP exam qualify for weighted grades: A = 5
B = 4
C = 3
D = 2
F or I = 0 2.0 Graduation Requirement
A cumulative 2.0 GPA is necessary to graduate.
