Superintendent Harold L. "Chuck" Hatfield
Bio for Chuck Hatfield
Putnam County Schools Superintendent Harold L. “Chuck” Hatfield is a 40 year veteran of Putnam County Schools.  In those years, he has served in a variety of professional roles within the system.  He first joined PCS as a substitute teacher in 1973, after earning a BA in elementary and social studies education from Glenville State College and a master’s degree from Marshall University in educational administration.  He later taught at Hurricane Elementary School.  After he entered administration, Mr. Hatfield was assistant principal of Winfield Elementary and principal of Eastbrook Elementary.  On the central office staff, he served in a number of positions, including Director of Early Childhood Education, Assistant Superintendent of Personnel and Pupil Services, and Deputy Superintendent.  He was named Superintendent of Schools in 2004.  In 2009, Mr. Hatfield was named State Superintendent of the Year.  He currently serves as chairman of the RESA III Advisory Council, is a member of the State Superintendent’s Advisory Council, and is a member of the Executive Committee for the West Virginia Association of School Administrators.
