Board of Education

Mission
The mission of Putnam County Schools, working with parents and community, is to establish a system characterized by cooperation, collaboration, and innovation, in which the adopted curriculum is taught by all teachers and mastered by all students. Furthermore, the staff accepts the responsibility to foster students' unique abilities and to develop student accountability for personal good health, positive attitudes, and responsible behavior.

Board Composition
Putnam County schools are under the supervision and control of a five member Board of Education, who are elected by the voters of the county without reference to political party affiliation. Members are elected at large from the entire county for four year terms at the spring primary election. New members take office on the first day of July following election.

Board Functions
The Putnam County Board of Education's primary responsibility is to establish purposes, programs, and procedures which will produce outstanding student achievement. It must accomplish this while also wisely managing resources available to the district. The Board functions primarily as a legislative body to formulate and adopt policy, ensure that policy is implemented, and evaluate the results. Further, it carries out its functions openly, while seeking the involvement and contributions of public, students, and staff in the decision making processes.
