Confidence
was one of 219 public schools nationwide to be named a 2012 National Blue
Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Friday.
Confidence is
being recognized for overall outstanding academic excellence and student
achievement. Their students consistently lead the state in assessment scores
and show no achievement gap between student subgroups.
“This award
is well-deserved,” states Superintendent Hatfield. “That Confidence is able to
offer a world-class education in spite of the challenges [they faced in the old
facility and with nearly 40% low SES rate] is proof that all students can
achieve to high levels. It is the staff that makes the difference,” he says.
Principal
Colleen Huston is quick to share praise, “Confidence is a family,” she says,
“and every member contributes to our success.”
Students
and staff have much to celebrate this year. The Blue Ribbon designation will
grace their new state-of-the-art facility that opened in August.
